Emmy winner Jeff Daniels is reportedly nearing a deal to appear in "Allegiant," the two-part finale of Lionsgate's "Divergent" franchise.

Robert Schwentke, who helmed the second installment "Divergent," will return to direct "Allegiant -- Part 1," which continues the adaptation of Veronica Roth's bestselling young-adult novels set in a dystopian future, where people are divided into factions based on human virtues. Shailene Woodley stars as Tris, who doesn't fall into any one division, and ends up leading an uprising.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the veteran actor will play David, the leader of the Bureau of Genetic Welfare."Allegiant -- Part 1" is set to begin production next month for release on March 18, 2016.Daniels, who won an Emmy in 2013 for his role on the HBO drama "The Newsroom," starred last year in "Dumb and Dumber To." He'll next be seen alongside Matt Damon and Jessica Chastain in director Ridley Scott's "The Martian."
