It has been one short week since Kevin Smith announced the start of filming for his next movie, Jay and Silent Bob Reboot, which makes the news that the release date for the movie is a lot closer than expected.

Smith appeared on The Mike Calta Show on radio station 102.5 The Bone and dropped the shocking news for fans of his View Askewniverse.

Calta asked if, when Jay and Silent Bob Reboot was finished shooting, fans would have to wait a year or two before it finally hit theaters. Smith immediately dismissed that concern and said it was coming later this year.

“Oh listen, no, I think we’re out in the fall,” Smith said. “Yeah, it’s a quick turnaround.”

Smith also gave fans a little more insight into what the Jay and Silent Bob Reboot shooting schedule looks like. Smith said that the first Clerks movie had a 21-day shooting schedule. The movie utilized limited locations, mostly taking place in the convenience store on a very minuscule shooting budget of $27,575.

The budget for Jay and Silent Bob Reboot is "vastly more than that" according to Smith, but the shooting schedule is still sticking to 21 days. Much like Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, there should also be vastly more locations, as the duo sets out for Hollywood once again to stop the production of a Bluntman and Chronic reboot movie.

While the shooting schedule is the same for both movies, Smith did admit that it is different because he has so much more experience now, while Clerks was his first movie.

Smith has promised a lot of surprises for fans and said there will be numerous guest star appearances in Jay and Silent Bob Reboot. This should remain consistent with Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, which featured cameos by Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Ben Affleck, Will Ferrell, Judd Nelson, George Carlin, Tracy Morgan, Wes Craven, Jason Biggs, James Van Der Beek and many more.

A fall turnaround means Jay and Silent Bob Reboot will shoot for less than a month, leaving Smith with about five months to edit and finish the movie. However, this will leave Smith with very little room for error, especially when you consider he hasn't made a movie in three years and suffered a heart attack just one year ago this month.

Jay and Silent Bob Reboot is directed by Kevin Smith and will star Smith and Jason Mewes as the title characters. The film is set for a fall release.
