You're gonna need a bigger screen. Nearly 50 years after its original release, Jaws is returning to theaters, and IMAX is hyping the event with an homage to classic Jaws imagery.

To mark the classic film's first time being presented in IMAX and 3D, IMAX has released a motion poster that brings to life Jaws' iconic original by artist Roger Kastel.

Released in 1975, Jaws followed the struggles of three men -- a police chief, a marine biologist and a sea captain -- as they hunt down a great white shark terrorizing a summer community off the coast of Cape Cod. Jaws created the summer blockbuster by becoming the first film to gross $100 million at the box office, turning director Steven Spielberg into a household name. Based on Peter Benchley's novel of the same name, Jaws went on to bite off more than $470 million. It was also a critical success, earning three Oscars for Best Sound, Best Film Editing, and John Williams' classic score. The film was also nominated for Best Picture and launched three sequels, though none of which were able to reach the financial and critical heights of the original.

Jaws has been re-released twice before, in 1976 and 1979, though this is the first time the film will receive the IMAX treatment. It's also the first time that audiences will be able to see the film in 3D. "Jaws redefined what it means to be a summer-event blockbuster and now for the first time ever audiences can experience Steven Spielberg's motion picture classic in 3D," said Travis Reid, RealD's Chief Executive Officer & President, Cinema. "Everything that made Jaws a sensation and a fan favorite for nearly 50 years will be enhanced in RealD 3D, allowing fans a completely new opportunity to immerse themselves in one of the greatest summer suspense thrillers of all time."

This isn't the first Spielberg classic to earn a re-release this year. A digitally remastered E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial made its return in IMAX earlier this month to celebrate the film's 40th anniversary. Megan Colligan, President of IMAX Entertainment, said the company was "thrilled" to partner with Universal and Amblin to present both films. "Steven Spielberg redefined modern cinema and ushered in a new era of bold, swing-for-the-fences filmmaking," she said. "[T]he IMAX Experience has expanded around the world because of the trail blazed by films like E.T. and Jaws."

Jaws swims into theaters in IMAX for a limited run starting on Sept. 2.
