Jason Statham May Enter Echelon

Deadline is reports that action star Jason Statham is interested in headlining the upcoming thriller Echelon, an adaptation of the novel Firewall by Andy McNab.

If the deal goes through, Statham will take on the role of an SAS soldier who gets caught up in a plot between the Russian mob and Western secret agents, both of which are vying for control of the Echelon computer program.

Echelon marks the directing debut of stunt coordinator Simon Crane, who previously worked on such films as The Tourist and Salt. If things go well for the film, it could mean yet another action franchise for Statham, who already has the Transporter series as well as Crank under his ass-kicking belt.

Firewall is the third book in a 13-book series by the pseudonymous McNab, himself a former SAS soldier. McNab previously gained recognition in the literary community for his bestselling non-fictional book Bravo Two Zero, which described going behind enemy lines during the first Iraq war.
