After securing Parks & Recreation actor Chris Pratt earlier this month Star-Lord, Marvel may be on its way to recruiting another cast member for director James Gunn's Guardians of the Galaxy.

According to Latino Review, which has had a pretty good track record on Marvel scoops, the studio is in negotiations for Conan the Barbarian star Jason Mamoa to play Drax the Destroyer. It was reported last month that “Old Spice guy” Isaiah Mustafa, Generation Kill actor Brian Patrick Wade and former professional wrestler Dave Batista were also testing for the role.

In Marvel comics, Arthur Douglas and his human family were killed by Thanos. Needing a champion capable of defeating the Mad Titan, the cosmic entity Kronos rescued Douglas’ spirit and placed it into the body of Drax the Destroyer, a being with superhuman strength and durability, and the ability to create blasts of cosmic energy.

The 6-foot-4 Momoa, who also appeared on HBO's Game of Thrones, can now be seen opposite Sylvester Stallone in Bullet to the Head.

Guardians of the Galaxy opens Aug. 1, 2014.
