The wife of former Power Rangers actor and mixed martial artist Jason David Frank has confirmed that her late husband died by suicide.

Frank's death was first reported on Nov. 20. At the time, a cause of death wasn't officially given, but the actor's wife, Tammie Frank, has now confirmed to People that he "tragically lost his life to suicide." She continued, "His death comes as much a shock to me as anyone else. The truth is, I had no idea that Jason was thinking of ending things. Yes, he had struggled with mental health issues and depression before, but I could never predict what would happen that night. [...] I lost the love of my life. Jason was a good man, but he was not without his demons. He was human, just like the rest of us."

Frank was best known for his role as Tommy Oliver, the original Green Ranger, in Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, joining the cast of the 1990s superhero series midway through the show's first season. Although he was initially set to appear for only one story arc, the character was widely popular with the fans leading the writers to expand Tommy's role in the show and make him a full-fledged member of the team of heroes.

Following the conclusion of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, Frank continued to appear as fan-favorite Tommy Oliver across the various incarnations of the Power Rangers television show from 1996 to 2018, with notable guest shots on Mighty Morphin Alien Rangers, Power Rangers Zeo, Power Rangers Turbo, Power Rangers Wild Force, Power Rangers Dino Thunder, Power Rangers Megaforce and Power Rangers Super Ninja Steel. The actor also appeared as Tommy in 1995's Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie and 1997's Turbo: A Power Rangers Movie and made a cameo as a resident of Angel Grove in the 2017 Power Rangers reboot film. At 257 episodes, Frank holds the record of being the actor with the most appearances on Power Rangers.

Many heartfelt tributes have come out since his death was first confirmed, including one from Frank's former co-star Amy Jo Johnson -- the original Pink Ranger and love interest to Frank's Tommy Oliver. "Jase, you were beautiful and truly unique. My life just won’t be the same without your frenetic, hilarious, caring, driven and creative ball of energy. I will always love you, dear friend. Please Rest now In Peace…" The official Power Rangers social media accounts also shared a touching tribute video mourning, honoring and celebrating Frank's life and legacy within the beloved franchise.
