Jared Leto will follow "Suicide Squad" with a starring role in the period action thriller "The Outsider."
Directed by Matrin Zandvliet ("Land of Mine") from a script by Andrew Baldwin ("Bastille Day"), the film is set in post-World War II Japan, where an imprisoned American soldier is released with the help of his yakuza cellmate. Now free, he sets out to earn the syndicate's respect and repay his debt.
Deadline reports the film, produced by Waypoint Entertainment and Linson Entertainment, is set to begin shooting this fall.
"The Outsider" marks only the second film for Leto since he won an Academy Award for his performance in 2013's "Dallas Buyers Club." He'll next be seen as The Joker in David Ayer's "Suicide Squad," arriving in August from Warner Bros.
