With Sony's Morbius movie set to start filming next February, star Jared Leto has given fans an online tease of how he's preparing for the role. Only it's not with any set photos, costume fittings or script readings; it's actually by shaving his facial hair.
Leto tweeted the quirky video of him enjoying the different stages of shaving, with the caption, "And so it begins...#MORBIUS" -- indicating he's getting into character. With Venom's box office success and Sony's Spider-Verse seemingly moving forward with heavy momentum, Sony will surely be keen on getting him suited up as the antihero known as Morbius, the Living Vampire.
Having first appeared in The Amazing Spider-Man #101, Michael Morbius was the brilliant but flawed biologist who is transformed into the Gothic member of Spider-Man’s rogues' gallery. The character became a fan-favorite in the long-running ’90s cartoon Spider-Man: The Animated Series, featuring in several episodes, including his own self-titled episode, “Morbius.”
While plot details are relatively scarce, rumors suggest he will face friend-turned-enemy Loxias Crown. The villain will reportedly suffer from the same blood disorder as the title character. In the comics, Crown used the experimental blood serum developed by Morbius to transform into a bloodthirsty, superhuman creature of the night, resulting in Morbius trying to stop his sanguineous rampage.
Directed by Daniel Espinosa (Life) from a script written by Burk Sharpless and Matt Sazama (Lost in Space), Sony's Morbius stars Jared Leto. A release date for the film has yet to be officially announced.
