Morbius director Daniel Espinosa confirmed a story that Jared Leto's commitment to method acting resulted in him needing help for bathroom breaks.

In an interview with Uproxx, Espinosa was asked about a rumor that Leto was so committed to method acting that he'd limp on crutches to the bathroom for breaks. However, as that caused the bathroom breaks to take a long time, the production made a deal to instead have him get into a wheelchair and be pushed to the bathroom. Espinosa confirmed the truth of that rumor, simply saying, "Yes."

Leto's commitment to not breaking character while working on projects is well-documented. During production on 2016's Suicide Squad, for example, Leto avoided breaking character and continued playing Joker when the cameras weren't rolling. This led to him sending Margot Robbie, who played Harley Quinn, a rat, whom she named Rat Rat. There were also rumors Leto sent used condoms to his co-stars on that production, though the actor later denied those reports. At the time, David Ayer, who directed and wrote Suicide Squad, called Leto's transformation process "fascinating" to watch, though noted he slowly lost the actor to Joker.

The third film in Sony's Spider-Man Universe, Morbius sees Leto playing the titular character, Michael Morbius. At the beginning of the movie, Morbius suffers from a rare blood disease for which he's trying to find a cure. While he does indeed find a cure, the process turns Morbius into a living vampire, which in and of itself confers upon him a number of incredible abilities.

At the time of writing, Morbius has grossed $84 million worldwide against a budget of between $75 and $83 million. While that's not a bad start for the movie, professional reviews of Morbius have been quite negative. At the time of writing, Morbius holds a 16 percent on Rotten Tomatoes. However, it's noteworthy that Morbius's audience score on that platform is significantly and currently sits at 70 percent. Espinosa has responded to criticism of Morbius, saying that he's always trying to focus on getting better at his craft and that there are parts of the movie of which he's proud.

Morbius is in theaters now. In addition to Leto, the project stars Matt Smith as Milo, Adria Arjona as Martine Bancroft and Jared Harris as Dr. Emil Nicholas.
