Suicide Squad's Joker is getting his own solo film. Plot details about the movie are currently being kept under wraps.

According to Variety, Jared Leto -- who reinvented the character for the 2016 film -- will produce and star in the spinoff film. This Joker spinoff will reportedly set up "future movies branching from Suicide Squad." The studio hopes to build up the world created by the DCEU installment, which hit theaters almost two years ago.

Warner Bros. already has another Suicide Squad spinoff in the works, with Margot Robbie's Harley Quinn slated to appear in Birds of Prey. Leto's Joker standalone film will be the second movie to branch out of Suicide Squad. A previous report claimed Suicide Squad 2 was pushed back to make room for Birds of Prey; at the time of writing, it is unclear if Leto's Joker film will also impact the long-gestating sequel.

Leto's Joker film is far from Warner Bros.' only project involving the Clown Prince of Crime. Warner Bros. is also developing a Joker origin film with a new actor playing the character; The Hangover scribe Todd Phillips will co-write a script with 8 Mile‘s Scott Silver, who will direct and also produce alongside Martin Scorsese. A Harley Quinn and Joker film is also in the works from Crazy, Stupid, Love scribes Glenn Ficarra and John Requa. Additionally, the character will likely appear in Suicide Squad 2.

Starring Jared Leto as the Clown Prince of Crime, Warner Bros.' Joker-centric Suicide Squad spinoff does not yet have a start date or release date.
