Jared Leto, who stars as Michael Morbius in Sony Pictures' upcoming film Morbius, recently spoke about the film and its place in a cinematic universe.

In a recent promotional video for Morbius for Japanese audiences, Leto shared his excitement about the film, as seen on Sony's YouTube channel. "I think it's going to be a fun one and I can't wait for you guys to see it," Leto said. "It's an exciting role and an expanding universe. There's a lot for all of us to look forward to."

Sony Pictures started its own cinematic universe starring characters from Spider-Man comics, starting with 2018's VenomMorbius is slated to take place in Sony's Spider-Man universe, which will also feature the upcoming Venom sequel, Venom: Let There Be Carnage.

Notably, the Morbius trailer also featured an appearance by Michael Keaton which led fans to speculate that Sony's universe will crossover with the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Keaton also appeared in 2017's Spider-Man: Homecoming as the Vulture/Adrian Toomes. This, however, has neither been confirmed nor denied by Marvel Studios or Sony Pictures.

Meanwhile, Morbius is set to release in early 2021 and will show Leto's Michael Morbius on a mission to find the cure for his rare blood disease. During an experiment with this cure, Morbius transforms himself into "the living vampire."

Directed by Daniel Espinosa, Morbius stars Jared Leto as the titular character, Matt Smith as Loxias Crown, Adria Arjona as Martine Bancroft, Tyrese Gibson as Agent Stroud and Jared Harris in an undisclosed role. Morbius arrives in theaters on March 19, 2021.
