Morbius and Suicide Squad star Jared Leto won't rule out returning as the Living Vampire or the Clown Prince of Crime in a future comic book film.

In an interview with The Playlist, Leto was asked if Marvel and DC fans can look forward to seeing him reprise his roles as the DC Extended Universe's Joker and Sony's Spider-Man Universe's Morbius in the future. "Well, as the old thing goes, never say never," the actor said. Leto previously played coy about returning as the Joker back in March 2022, also using the familiar phrase "never say never" as his response. Leto first portrayed the Joker in writer-director David Ayer's 2016 DCEU film Suicide Squad and later reprised the role in the epilogue for the 2021 film Zack Snyder's Justice League.

Leto's debut as the Joker was heavily anticipated by DC fans leading up to the release of Suicide Squad, with some fans curious as to how Leto's take on the Clown Prince of Crime would compare to past film iterations of the character, most notably the late Heath Ledger's version from The Dark Knight. Unfortunately, the majority of fans reacted negatively to Leto's take on the Joker, criticizing both the character's design and his relatively short screen time in the film. Multiple sources later confirmed that most of Leto's performance as the Joker in Suicide Squad had ended up on the cutting room floor. The DCEU supervillain was given a more subdued look for Zack Snyder's Justice League and upon release, several commentators agreed that this more restrained approach to the Joker redeemed the Suicide Squad's interpretation of the character. Warner Bros. has not officially confirmed Leto's involvement as the Joker for any upcoming DCEU film.

Sony has not officially announced a sequel for its 2022 film Morbius at this time, although Leto continues to tease online that a second Morbius film is in development. The Marvel adaptation received mostly negative reviews from critics when it opened in theaters on April 1. The film also underperformed at the box office, grossing only $163.8 million worldwide against a $75 to $83 million budget. The film did produce several viral memes, which lead Sony to re-release Morbius in over a thousand theaters across the United States to capitalize on the film's social media success. The re-release backfired, adding only $280,000 to Morbius' domestic box office total.

Suicide Squad and Zack Snyder's Justice League are available to stream on HBO Max with Morbius available to own on Digital, 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray and DVD.
