It's time to get morbed once again, as Sony Pictures' Marvel spinoff film Morbius is returning to theaters in the United States.According to Exhibitor Relations Co., Morbius is set to return to 1,037 theaters across the U.S. this weekend. The organization relayed this news on Twitter with a logo parodying Warner Bros. Pictures' recent DC film The Batman. "Because you wanted it. Because you demanded it. Because only you can move the needle to $73.4M domestic," it wrote. "THE MORBIUS returns to over 1,000+ theaters this weekend... in its 10th week of release. Current total is $73.3M US/CAN." Despite this tweet's obviously flippant nature, ERC assures Morbius is indeed returning to cinemas this weekend, per an email from Sony.RELATED: Twitch Shuts Down 24/7 Morbius Livestream Channel

The third film in Sony's line of live-action Spider-Man spinoffs -- following 2018's Venom and 2021's Venom: Let There Be Carnage -- Morbius premiered in theaters earlier this year on April 1. The film stars Jared Leto as Michael Morbius, a doctor who, in trying to cure his rare blood disease, inadvertently turns himself into an anti-heroic living vampire. Created by Roy Thomas and Gil Kane, Morbius the Living Vampire was originally introduced as an adversary to Spidey in 1971's Amazing Spider-Man #101.

As ERC explained, Morbius has made $73.3 million at the domestic box office thus far. Its worldwide total currently sits at $163.3 million. Upon its release, the film was largely panned by critics, currently holding an approval rating of 17 percent on the review aggregate site Rotten Tomatoes. That said, Morbius fared better with moviegoers, currently holding an audience score of 71 percent.

On that note, Morbius has found a second life as a meme, with Marvel fans playing up the "fact" that the film sold a "morbillion" tickets, as well as spreading non-existence lines from the film, most notably, "It's morbin' time!" Various fan edits have also placed Leto's Michael Morbius in other pieces of media, such as Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and Better Call Saul.

Morbius is currently available for Digital purchase. The film releases on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray and DVD on Tuesday, June 14.
