Famke Janssen seems to have confirmed that she has only a small role in director James Mangold's The Wolverine.

After rumors that she had filmed a cameo for the film swirled in October, Janssen's involvement was confirmed with the release of the movie's first trailer. When her scene was revealed, the soft lighting and fact that she and Logan seemed to be acting as lovers implied Jean Grey's resurrection was only in a flashback. During an interview with What Culture, Janssen said that's indeed the case.

"I couldn’t tell you [how much I’m in it]. It’s a flashback sequence, but that’s all I can say. You’ll just have to wait until July!" she said (via SuperHeroHype).

Janssen could just be hedging and her role could be larger than she is saying here, but it would make sense in the context of the story for her only to appear in a flashback. If that really is all there is to her part, kudos to Janssen for even deigning to appear at all. Her involvement will help tie this standalone X-Men film back to its predecessors.

The Wolverine also stars Hugh Jackman as Wolverine, Svetlana Khodchenkova as Viper, Hiroyuki Sanada Shingen Yashida, Hal Yamanouchi as Yashida, Tao Okamoto as Mariko Yashida, Rila Fukushima as Yukio and Brian Tee as Noburo Mori. The film opens July 26.
