Jamie Chung, who is set to play Molly Park in Showtime's resurrection of Dexter, believes that her character poses a substantial danger to the serial murderer portrayed by Michael C. Hall.
In an interview with THR, Chung talked about her experience working on Lovecraft Country as well as other projects past, present and future. In Dexter, Molly Park is an L.A.-based podcaster whose primary topic for discussion on-air is true crime, which pits her against the titular character as he attempts to evade capture by law enforcement.
"In essence, it’s exactly what Dexter fans want. The character of Molly Park is so fun and vibrant. And true-crime podcasting is a fairly new medium in terms of true crime, and introducing that into Dexter’s world is another threat to revealing his identity. So it’s been really fun," Chung said. When Dexter was last seen in the show's Season 8 finale, he had given up his vigilantism to become a lumberjack and hide from the police. In Showtime's upcoming revival, he has relocated away from Miami, adopted a new name and changed his profession. Despite all of his efforts to go unnoticed, however, Dexter will surely have to deal with some heat once Molly Park is on the case.
Speaking of how the new series will be different from the original, Chung said, "The original series happened over 10 years ago. So there's certainly a different vibe of the way the actual show is shot in terms of the aesthetic. I do think it's a little darker. It takes place in upstate New York and as we know from the last season, Dexter's hiding. So it certainly carries on and you have a lot of fresh faces, but a lot of familiar ones. I think it will certainly satisfy everyone's appetite. Especially if you're a big Dexter fan."
While the 10-episode reboot represents another opportunity for Dexter to be caught for the many murders he committed, there still exists a distinct possibility that he will continue evading discovery, whether or not Molly Park aids in the hunt. One thing that's for certain is that Park and the investigators who are tracking him are far from being the only hazards for Dexter to worry about, especially with the recent announcement that John Lithgow's Trinity Killer will be returning.
Created by Clyde Phillips, Dexter stars Michael C. Hall, Clancy Brown, Julia Jones, Alano Miller, Jamie Chung, Johnny Sequoyah and Jack Alcott. Showtime's revival series has yet to receive a premiere date.
