James Woods Lends Support to Captain Marvel Boycott ... With a Meme

Actor James Woods has endorsed the boycott of Captain Marvel with a meme that urges folks to watch Alita: Battle Angel instead.

The "Distracted Boyfriend" meme is one of the Internet's most popular ones, and Woods tweeted out an appropriated version that showcases moviegoers being tempted by Alita and not Brie Larson's debut as the first female superhero to lead a Marvel Studios movie.

Woods has joined the chorus of naysayers who didn't appreciate Larson's comments on the press circuit that backed feminism and inclusivity. Larson's words were deemed as attacks on masculinity and, in response, some have made it clear they'd prefer to go see Alita as they believe it doesn't have a political message or a perceived agenda of any kind.

Woods has been outspoken on social media surrounding the issues Larson stands for. With Captain Marvel's opening tracking well at the box office and a lot of positive reviews, it's clear that -- regardless which movie fans go see -- it's still a win for everyone who wants to see more diversity in Hollywood, especially with women kicking butt.

Directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck from a script they wrote with Liz Flahive, Carly Mensch, Meg LeFauve, Nicole Perlman and Geneva Robertson-Dworet, Captain Marvel stars Brie Larson as Carol Danvers, Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, Jude Law as Mar-Vell, Clark Gregg as Phil Coulson, Lee Pace as Ronan the Accuser, Djimon Hounsou as Korath the Pursuer, Gemma Chan as Minn-Erva, Ben Mendelsohn as Talos and Lashana Lynch as Maria Rambeau. The film arrives on March 8.
