While Aquaman continues its impressive box office run worldwide, and is on-track to become the highest earning DCEU film to date, the superhero movie has its fair share of detractors.

In response to news that fans of Aquaman are attacking those that dislike the film online, filmmaker James Wan has tweeted for overly passionate fans to refrain from harassing those that do not agree with them. Additionally, while Wan noted it is alright for audiences to not enjoy his film, he asked individuals to avoid attacking him personally online as well.

More positively, Aquaman has had an impressive theatrical run so far, outperforming 2016's Suicide Squad to become the third highest earning film in the DCEU to date. Predicted by several industry analysts to become the first DCEU film to earn at least $1 billion worldwide, the only two films in the cinematic universe that currently have higher lifetime box office earnings are last year's Wonder Woman and 2016's Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice.

Divisive elements of the fandom aside, the film has provided the s0-called DCEU with a financial and critical win after the mixed reception to last year's Justice League. With its box office earnings, Warner Bros.' tentative plans for a sequel are becoming more and more likely.

Directed by James Wan, Aquaman stars Jason Momoa as Aquaman, Amber Heard as Mera, Patrick Wilson as Ocean Master, Willem Dafoe as Nuidis Vulko, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Black Manta, Temuera Morrison as Thomas Curry, Dolph Lundgren as Nereus and Nicole Kidman as Queen Atlanna.
