Van Helsing will battle the creatures of the night again thanks to James Wan and Universal Pictures.

Wan will produce a Van Helsing remake under his Atomic Monster banner, alongside Michael Clear and Judson Scott. Julius Avery is also being eyed to direct the film, as well as rewriting the original script by Eric Pearson. Avery's previous projects include the World War II horror action film Overlord, produced by J.J. Abrams' Bad Robot banner, as reported by Deadline.

Details about the film are scarce, though it's expected to follow the life of the titular monster hunter. The success of Leigh Whannell's The Invisible Man has breathed new life into Universal's slate of classic monsters, with the studio affirming that it "remains committed to creating compelling filmmaker-driven projects based on characters from the studio's vast Monsters legacy."

Abraham Van Helsing first appeared in the Dracula novel by Bram Stoker as an expert on vampirism. The character has inspired several other forms of media, including the Tomb of Dracula series from Marvel Comics and 2004's Van Helsing film directed by Stephen Sommers and starring Hugh Jackman as monster hunter Gabriel Van Helsing.

Wan is no stranger to horror films, having created The Conjuring franchise for Warner Bros. He also directed the live-action Aquaman film, which was a box office smash. Wan's future Atomic Monster projects include an Aquaman sequel and the upcoming Mortal Kombat reboot, both under Warner Bros. Atomic Monster is also producing the I Know What You Did Last Summer television series.
