Earlier this week, reports had surfaced that Amazon's planned television adaptation of the popular slasher franchise I Know What You Did Last Summer had signed prolific horror filmmaker James Wan to direct its pilot episode. However, according to Wan himself, these reports appear to be untrue.

Wan had communicated with JoBlo through Facebook directly to debunk reports that he was directing the planned series' pilot episode.

Before directing last year's Aquaman, Wan had earned widespread acclaim for helming the main installments of Warner Bros.' The Conjuring horror franchise. In addition to directing the two main films, Wan also co-wrote and produced several of the series' various spinoffs, including last year's The Nun. Wan has also worked in television, executive producing Swamp Thing for DC Universe.

I Know What You Did Last Summer is loosely based on Lois Duncan's 1973 novel of the same name, with the first slasher film released in 1997. The success of the original film led to two subsequent sequels, released in 1998 and 2006.
