James McAvoy Joins Charlize Theron in 'The Coldest City'

"X-Men" franchise veteran James McAvoy will star opposite Charlize Theron in the spy thriller "The Coldest City," Variety reports.

Directed by David Leitch ("John Wick") from a script by Kurt Johnstad ("300," "Aquaman"), the film centers on an MI6 officer who turns up dead on the eve of the fall of the Berlin Wall, and super-spy Lorraine Broughton (Theron), who must find the list of undercover espionage agents he was smuggling to the West.

The Focus Features film is expected to begin production next month in Budapest and Berlin.

McAvoy, who'll next be seen alongside Daniel Radcliffe in "Victor Frankenstein," recently replaced Joaquin Phoenix in M. Night Shyamalan's next film.
