Thor: Love and Thunder director Taika Waititi is in talks for an undisclosed role in James Gunn's The Suicide Squad.

According to Deadline, a table reading is set to take place on September 11, with production beginning on the 23rd.

In addition to the returning cast members from 2016's Suicide Squad, Gunn's soft reboot has also added Pitch Perfect 2's Flula BorgA Wrinkle in Time's Storm Reid and Firefly's Nathan Fillion in similarly mysterious roles. Meanwhile, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2's Steve Agee has signed on to voice King Shark.

As for Waititi, in addition to directing Thor: Love and Thunder and potentially joining The Suicide Squad, he also directed an episode of The Mandalorian, which will premiere with the launch of Disney+ in November. Additionally, he wrote and directed Jojo Rabbit, which releases on October 18.

Written and directed by James Gunn, The Suicide Squad is set to hit theaters Aug. 6, 2021. Several cast members from 2016's Suicide Squad are expected to reprise their roles, including Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Viola Davis as Amanda Waller, Joel Kinnaman as Rick Flagg and Jai Courtney as Captain Boomerang.
