James Gunn revealed some more details on his upcoming DCEU film The Suicide Squad, specifically in regards to chronology.

During an Instagram Q&A session, Gunn revealed that The Suicide Squad "takes place in the year it comes out," which is 2021. This is the original release date established by Warner Bros., which has not been delayed or altered due to the coronavirus pandemic. This places it after the most recent DCEU film Birds of Prey, which stars ex-Task Force X member Harley Quinn and references her former squad member Captain Boomerang.

Thanks to the coronavirus, Gunn has been hard at work editing the film from home. He believes that the only reason The Suicide Squad would be delayed is if there were any problems with the VFX. The film finished production well before the coronavirus outbreak shut down most of Hollywood.

Written and directed by James Gunn, The Suicide Squad stars Margot Robbie, Viola Davis, Joel Kinnaman, Jai Courtney, David Dastmalchian, John Cena, Joaquin Cosio, Nathan Fillion, Mayling Ng, Flula Borg, Sean Gunn, Juan Diego Botto, Storm Reid, Pete Davidson, Taika Waititi, Alice Braga, Steve Agee, Tinashe Kajese, Daniela Melchior, Peter Capaldi, Julio Ruiz, Jennifer Holland, Idris Elba and Michael Rooker.
