Over the years, fans of Zack Snyder have been extremely vocal of the director on social media and the repeated use of the hashtag #RestoreTheSnyderCut likely played a major role in Warner Bros. deciding to finally let Snyder finish his version of 2017's Justice League after the director had to leave the film before it was finished due to the tragic passing of his daughter, with Warner Bros. having Joss Whedon do edits and reshoots that dramatically changed the film. However, the fans use of social media has also been controversial, as some of the uses have also involved "review bombing" other projects (giving negative reviews and using the review to make statements) in promotion of the Snyder Cut.

Godzilla vs. Kong famously was review bombed by #RestoreTheSnyderverse fans and the same thing is now happening with James Gunn's new film, The Suicide Squad, but Gunn is not particularly bothered by the actions of these fans.

First, a fan tweeted out, "I hear The Suicide Squad is being review-bombed by the Snyder Cut crew. Why? Because something shows a movie can be dark as well as fun and actually have some personality in its characters? @JamesGunn hasn’t let me down yet."

There are some segments of SnyderCut fandom who see David Ayer's Suicide Squad being part of the "Snyderverse" and that the move to James Gunn's The Suicide Squad is going away from the SnyderVerse.

Gunn, though, replied to the tweet by noting, "I’ll live - stuff like this means nothing in the big picture. (And important to point out most the SnyderCut fans have been supportive, it’s only a few who feel it’s worthwhile spending their time doing stuff like this.)"

Written and directed by James Gunn, The Suicide Squad stars Viola Davis as Amanda Waller, Joel Kinnaman as Rick Flag, Michael Rooker as Savant, Flula Borg as Javelin, David Dastmalchian as Polka-Dot Man, Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Daniela Melchior as Ratcatcher 2, Idris Elba as Bloodsport, Mayling NG as Mongal, Peter Capaldi as The Thinker, Alice Braga as Solsoria, Sylvester Stallone as King Shark, Pete Davidson as Blackguard, Nathan Fillion as TDK, Sean Gunn as Weasel, Jai Courtney as Captain Boomerang and John Cena as Peacemaker, with Steve Agee, Taika Waititi and Storm Reid. The film arrives in theaters and on HBO Max Aug. 6.
