Director James Gunn surprised a DC Extended Universe fan on Twitter by replying to his request for "any updates" on 2021's The Suicide Squad.While there's yet to be a released trailer for the reboot of the upcoming DCEU film, Gunn confirmed that he's "a hair's-breadth from being completely finished" with the project. The Suicide Squad wrapped filming just under a year ago and is currently in post-production. Gunn is currently cutting the film as production begins on its HBO Max spinoff series Peacemaker.
Gunn also reminded fans to "be patient" while waiting for any further updates -- such as a trailer for a film -- promising that there is "cool stuff" in the pipeline. "I know, I know. You want the trailer," he posted on Twitter. "Or the teaser. Or more news. Or who the baddie is (they ALL are the baddies but also...). Anyway, this will all be with you in due time."
In December, Gunn confirmed that The Suicide Squad will have an R-Rating. Although he's been responsive to fans on social media throughout the last couple of months, he's shied away from revealing plot details. However, he has revealed who the main villain is in The Suicide Squad to Marvel Studios President and Marvel Chief Creative Officer Kevin Feige.
The tenth film set in the DCEU will feature several returning cast members from 2016's Suicide Squad, but will also be debuting several characters from DC Comics that have yet to make a big-screen debut, including Idris Elba's Bloodsport, Peter Capaldi's The Thinker and Pete Davidson's Blackguard.
The Suicide Squad's release will be joining several 2021 WarnerMedia blockbusters releasing simultaneously in theatres and on HBO Max. Although the move is unprecedented, WarnerMedia followed a similar strategy for its release of Wonder Woman 1984 that ultimately set a pandemic weekend opening record by bringing in $16.7 million from 2,100 North American theaters.

The film arrives in theaters Aug. 6.
