Marvel's Elders of the Universe apparently aren't ready for their close-up just yet.

A rumor emerged earlier this week that Benicio del Toror's The Collector and Jeff Goldblum's The Grandmaster would have some cosmic-level company in "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" and "Thor: Ragnarok," where they would be joined by the remaining Elders, a group of ancient and immensely powerful alien beings from Marvel Comics.

However, "Guardians 2" director and co-writer James Gunn was quick to throw cold water on the notion:

Where do you guys get this nonsense? Who are all the people running around giving fake inside scoops to journalists? https://t.co/9abS5jGYcP

The original article, which appeared on Schmoes Know, has since been deleted.

For the time being, at least, it appears as if the only Elder to be involved in the "Guardians of the Galaxy" is The Collector (the report alleged that Elizabeth's Debicki's Ayesha would have her backstory tweaked, making her an Elder in the Marvel Cinematic Universe).

Gunn's comment appears to put to rest the rumor of the Elders in "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2," but what about "Thor: Ragnarok?" Jeff Goldblum's hedonistic Grandmaster is expected to oversee the otherworldly gladiatorial games in a storyline that borrows from Marvel Comics" "Planet Hulk." But will he be the only Elder represented?

For those not familiar with the Elders of the Universe, they are ancient, powerful beings who are the last survivors of otherwise-exctinct alien races, and often interject themselves into the larger cosmic events of Marvel's comic-book universe. Because the MCU is branching further into the cosmic realm, one has to wonder if the Elders will play an even greater role in films moving forward.

Arriving May 5, 2017," "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" also stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, Michael Rooker, Karen Gillan, Sean Gunn, Glenn Close, Pom Klementieff, Elizabeth Debicki, Chris Sullivan and Kurt Russell.
