New DC Studios co-CEOs James Gunn and Peter Safran have a 10-year plan for the DC Universe.

During a Warner Bros. Discovery virtual town hall with CEO David Zaslav, Gunn and Safran expressed their commitment to presenting a cohesive, single story to the DCU similar to Marvel Studios' Infinity Saga, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Their plan is for the brand's new direction to stretch across multiple forms of DC Comics media. "This was such a unique opportunity to tell one great overarching story," Safran said. "One beautiful big story across film, television gaming, live-action, and animation."

Gunn echoed the sentiments of his DC Studios partner as they begin work on this new plan. "The opportunity to make DC as great as it can be and as it should be -- that is the reason why I'm doing this job because I know that Peter and I can do that," Gunn said. "We spent the past couple days with a group of some of the best thinkers in the industry, the best writers in the industry starting to map out that eight to 10-year plan of what it’s going to look like in theater, in TV, in animation, across the board for these characters."

The DCU's Next 10 Years

On Oct. 25, Gunn and Safran were announced as the new co-chairs and co-CEOs of DC Studios, replacing the DC Films division that dissolved following the departure of president Walter Hamada. This came after months of Warner Bros. Discovery's search for a leader, similar to Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige, to rebrand the DC franchise in film and television. Gunn, who earned worldwide acclaim as the writer/director for Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy franchise as well as DC's The Suicide Squad and Peacemaker, will oversee the creative aspect of the DCU while experienced producer Safran will handle the business end.

Gunn confirmed that DC Studios will continue to oversee standalone projects outside the DCU including sequels to Matt Reeves' The Batman and Todd Phillips' upcoming sequel, Joker: Folie à Deux. Additionally, Man of Steel star Henry Cavill anticipates speaking specifically to Gunn about Superman's DCU future following his surprise cameo appearance in the mid-credits scene of Black Adam.

"He's clearly a very, very talented man, and I cannot wait to sit down and have long, long conversations with him," Cavill said. "I'm very excited about him being there and very excited about any future opportunities we can work together."
