James Gunn revealed that production had wrapped on his upcoming Peacemaker series by posting a photo of his favorite cast member: Penny the dog.The director shared a photo of himself holding Penny on his Twitter account, along with the caption, "And that's a wrap on my favorite #Peacemaker cast member -- Penny!"
Gunn posted the image of the pooch shortly after confirming he had wrapped filming scenes featuring a variety of other actors who will appear in the series. "The last two days we wrapped [Danielle Brooks], [Jennifer Holland], [Steve Agee] and Chukwudi Iwuji on Season One of Peacemaker," Gunn said at the time. "I love making a TV show. I love everything we're doing with it. And I love making it with these people. Can't wait for you to see them laugh, cry, & kick ass." Gunn also revealed that he had one day left to film with John Cena and Freddie Stroma.
Shortly after wrapping production, Gunn teased that the Peacemaker soundtrack is his favorite yet, saying, "The soundtrack for #Peacemaker Season One is my favorite I've ever done." The director was previously celebrated for the soundtracks that accompanied Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 1 and Vol. 2, which both featured pop and rock hits from the '70s and '80s.
HBO Max's Peacemaker series will find Cena reprising his role as Peacemaker, who will be introduced in Gunn's upcoming Suicide Squad film. That film will operate as a stand-alone follow-up to David Ayer's 2016 film, The Suicide Squad. Ahead of the premiere of Suicide Squad next month, Gunn shared the one thing Warner Bros. asked him to consider while making the film.
"When Warner Bros. said they wanted me to do this, I watched the first movie for the first time, and I called them back and said, what do I have to keep from this movie?" Gunn recalled. "And they said, nothing. They said, listen, we would love it if Margot's in the movie but she doesn't have to be. You could come up with all new characters or you could keep all the same characters."
Many cast members from the first film will appear in Gunn's The Suicide Squad including Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Viola Davis as Amanda Waller and Joel Kinnaman as Rick Flag, with a variety of newcomers, including Cena's Peacemaker. The Suicide Squad arrives in theaters and on HBO Max on Aug. 6, with Peacemaker premiering on HBO Max in Jan. 2022.
