The prospect of seeing Mark Hamill in the Marvel Cinematic Universe has just gotten a little closer to reality. Over the weekend, Guardians of the Galaxy writer and director James Gunn met with the legendary Star Wars actor for a friendly barbecue.
On Sunday, the Marvel director posted a picture of himself being hosted by Hamill on his Instagram page. "Finally stopped by my neighbor @hamillhimself's for that cup of coffee we talked about on twitter months ago," Gunn wrote, referencing a Twitter exchange between the two that took place last February.

Finally stopped by my neighbor @hamillhimself’s for that cup of coffee we talked about on twitter months ago. And some bbq. And cornbread. And cobbler. And OKAY IT’S TRUE I ATE THE HAMILL’S OUT OF HOUSE AND HOME BACK OFF. Honestly, though he’s an amazing guy and I am really grateful to him and the whole Hamill clan for a great Sunday.
During the initial conversation, Gunn and Hamill exchanged pleasantries after a fan suggested the director hire the Star Wars actor for a role in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Both seemed open to the idea, and they ended their exchange by leaving all fans hanging at the idea of the two of them meeting. Now here we are three months later, and the two celebrities have finally found the time to meet in person.
While the two more than likely just spent some quality time under the sun, we can't help but wonder if the two discussed the next installment in the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise. After all, James Gunn did reference the original exchange in the caption of his Instagram post. Is there any chance that the two found the perfect role for Hamill? Only time will tell.
James Gunn will return to write and direct Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. The film is expected to film sometime next year, with an expected release date in 2020.
