As the driving force behind "Guardians of the Galaxy" and its upcoming sequel, writer/director James Gunn has been responsible for bringing the cosmic corner of the Marvel Universe to life. Even though Gunn has spent all of his time in the Marvel Cinematic Universe exploring the far reaches of the cosmos, he still has ideas that take place in what could be described as the exact opposite setting of the "Guardians of the Galaxy" films. As James Gunn recently revealed on Twitter, he knows what he would also do with the street-level corner of the MCU as well. When asked if he ever considered adding the vigilante Moon Knight to the cosmic Guardians team, James Gunn expressed his enthusiasm for the character.

He also, of course, added that a gritty, human superhero like Moon Knight doesn't really fit in with the cosmic aliens featured in Star-Lord's crew. But just because there's zero chance of an Earth hero like Moon Knight journeying beyond the stars does't mean Gunn hasn't devoted at least some time to figuring out how he'd handle the hero's big screen debut. Gunn has given that some thought -- and he's even talked to Marvel about it.

Gunn quickly tries to cut off any potential rumors that he's heading up a "Moon Knight" feature film after he completes post-production on "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2." He says twice that he doesn't have the time to do a Moon Knight feature film, even if he does have an idea for one and has -- at the very least in a casual setting -- brought it up to the people at Marvel Studios.

Debuting in 1975's "Werewolf by Night" #32, Moon Knight has led numerous dark and gritty ongoing Marvel Comics series over the last 40 years. Moon Knight is a character that's worn many hats over the years, going from a Marine to a mercenary to a television producer and uses an array of gadgets, weapons and vehicles to wage a war on street-level crime. Because of his roots on the mean streets of Marvel's Manhattan, many have pegged Moon Knight as a potential character to be included in Marvel's growing line of Netflix series, alongside Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist and Punisher.

In the meantime, though, James Gunn has "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" to wrap up. Opening May 5, “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2” also stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Bradley Cooper, Michael Rooker, Karen Gillan, Sean Gunn, Glenn Close, Elizabeth Debicki and Chris Sullivan.
