James Gunn, director of Guardians of the Galaxy and the upcoming The Suicide Squad film, has voiced his support of Democratic candidate Andrew Yang in the 2020 presidency race.Brittany Shepherd of Yahoo! News Tweeted a recent statement Gunn made about Yang. "Andrew Yang is willing to discuss the tough issues our country is facing right now, instead of running from them, and come up with positive, unique, and excitingly revolutionary new ways to tackle the future." Yang, an entrepreneur and philanthropist, filed to run for the 2020 presidency in 2017.

Simu Liu, star of the upcoming Marvel film Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, has also spoken out in support for Yang. Other stars supporting Yang for the presidency include Donald Glover, Elon Musk and Chris Jericho.

In addition to the Suicide Squad, Gunn will write and direct the third installment of Guardians of the Galaxy, which does not currently have a release date.

The film arrives in theaters Aug. 6, 2021.
