James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 1 is chockful of Easter eggs, so, when the film released in 2014, eager fans got to dissecting the movie and all its hidden, referential treasures in short order. It would be natural to assume that the film has been mined of all its Easter eggs at this point, but according to Gunn that is not the case. One major Easter egg remains, and the latest guess is a dud.

That guess comes from Twitter user @ViktorBravo1, who posited that a scrap of paper lying on the ground in the Collector’s ruined curio cache bears a familiar symbol -- a silhouette of Mickey Mouse, the mascot of Disney, the company that owns Marvel Studios. It was a valiant effort, but unfortunately Gunn shot the guess down quickly, noting that the presence of Mickey’s mug was actually “accidental” and that there were other references to Disney’s mouse mascot in the film.

Gunn has not revealed when the final Easter egg will be revealed should no one come forward with a correct guess, but he has assured that the hidden reference will be revealed sometime soon (originally the director stated that the Easter egg would be revealed after the release of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2).

But that is not the only Easter egg Gunn is keeping close to his chest. The director has also confirmed that a similar, yet-to-be-discovered Easter egg is present in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. If the two are connected is anyone’s guess and guess they will for a very long time.
