James Gunn has expressed deep interest in making a solo Harley Quinn film.

After the director posted an AMA to his Instagram story on his drive home from the set of The Suicide Squad, a fan submitted a question regarding a film starring the one and only Harley Quinn, asking, "Would you ever consider making a stand alone harley film? Cause she a bad bitch and can do it." He shared the question and replied with the caption, "I definitely would yes."

James Gunn weighs in on a solo Harley Quinn movie.

Gunn's desire to make Harley Quinn the star of her own movie is no surprise, considering she's one of the most popular characters in the DC Universe. Since her debut in Batman: The Animated Series, she's evolved from The Joker's villainous sidekick to a hero of sorts in her own right. In more recent years, she's headlined comics, her own animated series and was the co-star of both Suicide Squad and Birds of Prey (And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn). Gunn is also the writer and director of her next theatrical outing, The Suicide Squad.

Written and directed by James Gunn, The Suicide Squad stars Viola Davis as Amanda Waller, Joel Kinnaman as Rick Flag, Michael Rooker as Savant, Flula Borg as Javelin, David Dastmalchian as Polka-Dot Man, Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Daniela Melchior as Ratcatcher 2, Idris Elba as Bloodsport, Mayling NG as Mongal, Peter Capaldi as The Thinker, Alice Braga as Solsoria, Sylvester Stallone as King Shark, Pete Davidson as Blackguard, Nathan Fillion as TDK, Sean Gunn as Weasel, Jai Courtney as Captain Boomerang, John Cena as Peacemaker and Steve Agee, Taika Waititi and Storm Reid. The film arrives in theaters and on HBO Max Aug. 6.
