A few days after Warner announced that James Gunn and Peter Safran would take control of DC's cinematic universe, Gunn stirred the pot on Twitter with one simple image. The director published an image of Kingdom Come's Superman with the comment, "Making plans." This led the fandom to believe Gunn may be planning to use Mark Waid and Alex Ross' comic to restart the DCU.

Many fans expressed their excitement for this idea, while others think the image is less about Kingdom Come and more about the fact that Superman is "making plans" on it. Regardless, Kingdom Come would be a great way to reboot the DCU. However, it isn't the only DC event James Gunn could use. Series like Flashpoint, Final Crisis or Milk Wars would be just as epic.

10 Kingdom Come Could Be The DCU Endgame

Superman stands before a realistically rendered Justice League in DC Comics, Kingdom Come.

In a dystopic future in the DC universe, heroes don't follow moral rules anymore. Instead, they're just as violent as the villains they hunt. When Magog, one of these new vigilantes, takes things too far, Superman comes out of his retirement and reforms the Justice League to stop him.

Kingdom Come is one of the most epic comics of DC comics. It depicts a universe where things are as bleak as possible and all heroes must confront the most extreme conditions of their reality. It wouldn't work as the beginning of the DCU, but, once all heroes have been properly introduced, it would be a fine conclusion for the first saga of the DCU.

9 Darkseid War Has The Right Level Of Epicness For An Entire Saga

After the revelation that reality has been torn apart and rebuilt over and over for thousands of years, Metron takes it upon himself to stop this cycle. In order to do this, the villain pits Darkseid and the Anti-Monitor against each other. The Justice League ends up in the middle of the conflict, attempting to save the universe.

Metron, Darkseid, and the Anti-Monitor are three of the most powerful villains in DC. Having them in a single storyline would make for a series of incredible films. If Marvel has Thanos, DC could have the three heavy hitters of their own in a showdown sure to blow everyone's minds.

8 Flashpoint May Help Reboot The DCU

Barry Allen's Flash costume tears as he speed force runs back in time on Flashpoint's cover.

On a fateful day, Barry Allen wakes up only to discover reality has changed completely. He isn't the Flash anymore, his mother Nora is alive, and his father isn't in jail. Additionally, there is no Justice League. Instead, the team's strongest heroes are incapable of working with each other. As Barry understands his new life, he discovers he's the one to blame for it.

Fans already know that The Flash film will be influenced by Flashpoint. DCU should take advantage of this and use the film's nature to revamp the whole cinematic universe. Many fans are against the film even coming out at this point, but if it's happening anyway, it could be useful for this.

7 Dark Knights: Metal Is A Very Complete Event

The seven Batmen from Dark Knights Metal

In Dark Nights: Metal, Batman discovers there's a Dark Multiverse beneath the actual DC multiverse. While researching the connection between both dimensions, he inadvertently releases seven versions of Batman led by Barbatos, the Bat-God. As these villains plan to release darkness into the multiverse, the Justice League must stop them.

Dark Nights: Metal is one of the most-read comics of the last decade. It set the ground for a DC revamp and introduced new characters, like The Batman Who Laughs. The incredible design of these characters combined with the music that inspired the series would work incredibly in a film.

6 Final Crisis Raises The Stakes From The First Moment

Also known as "the day evil won," Final Crisis portrays a world where Darkseid arrives on Earth together with other evil gods of Apokolips. The villain begins murdering all heroes who could interrupt his conquest plans. When the heroes of Earth realize how much of a threat these superpowered beings are, they draft all metahumans for war.

Darkseid has always been one of the most popular villains in DC comics. It would make sense to make him the main villain of the DCU saga. Final Crisis is a great option for this because it doesn't hold any punches. From the very first issue, this series reveals how dangerous the villain is and how difficult it will be for Earth heroes to stop him.

5 Heroes In Crisis Would Be A Great Mystery Film

DC Comics Heroes in Crisis - The trinity and other heroes mourning.

Following a shooting in "The Sanctuary" — a place for heroes and reformed villains to deal with their mental health struggles — Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman investigate who did it. The only two survivors, Harley Quinn and Booster Gold, become the main suspects, even though they don't remember what really happened.

Tom King's emotional realism in Heroes in Crisis may not be the best option to craft a whole DCU Phase around it, but it's definitely a great option to adapt at some point during this era. It would make a fantastic mystery film while also introducing the moral alignment for many characters.

4 Milk Wars Could Connect DC TV With The Films

Milkman Man in Milk Wars

After mysterious and corrupted corporation brainwashes several Justice League members, the most prominent heroes of DC's Young Animal imprint must save them all. Milk Wars follows the battle of these characters against Milkman Man, the dangerous muscle man of RetConn.

In the comics, Milk Wars served as a bridge between the Justice League and other Young Animal characters, such as the Doom Patrol. Given that this wacky team has a successful show on HBO Max, Milk Wars could connect the DC TV universe with the DCU while also offering an entertaining narrative for the fans.

3 The DCU Could Use Convergence As An Excuse For A Reboot

Through the Vanishing Point, Brainiac becomes able to see all worlds destroyed by a crisis, keeping them on the edge of the multiverse. When he tasks Telos, a sentient planet, to take care of them, this creature forces them to fight for their own survival in a twisted multiversal Battle Royale.

Telos' murderous hobby in Convergence is a great excuse for DC to flex on its multiverse, even if half of it is about to say goodbye. Like in the comics, this storyline could bring back dozens of characters. Besides this, battle royales have been in fashion for a while, so the film could be a success.

2 Blackest Night Is A Fan-Favorite Crossover

Green Lantern surrounded by deceased DC heroes from Blackest Night.

Nekron, a dangerous and dark force that embodies Death, starts bringing all kinds of heroes and villains from death and turning them into Black Lanterns. In order to stop this army, the Green Lantern corps ally with other Earth heroes. The battle that ensues is one of the most epic moments in DC comics.

Blackest Night revolves around Lanterns, which haven't debuted in the DCU, so fans hope Gunn will finally bring them in. This crossover is the perfect opportunity to do it since it delivers a well-put narrative full of incredible moments. Blackest Night could put any previous superhero movie to shame if done right.

1 Crisis On Infinite Earths Already Changed The DC Universe In The Comics

When Pariah inadvertently releases the Anti-Monitor in his universe, this villain attempts to become the ruler of all realities. A watershed in DC comics, Crisis on Infinite Earths portrays all Earth heroes trying and failing to save the multiverse from the Anti-Monitor, creating a single Earth in the process.

The Arrowverse already adapted Crisis on Infinite Earths on television. However, there is always space for such an important crossover in films, too. This event, which marks two of the most important eras of DC history, would be the best way of ending the DCU's first storyline. Contrary to the MCU, which introduced the multiverse by the end of the Infinity Saga, Crisis on Infinite Earths could set the ground for one main continuity in the DCU.
