DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn debunks a claim about future projects planned for the live-action DC Universe (DCU).On Twitter, one user asked, "Any truth to this leak?" and shared an apparent screenshot of a conversation between the account @bigscreenleaks (BSL) and another user. The latter user listed out projects allegedly planned for the DCU's upcoming slate titled "Chapter 1: Gods and Monsters," including Animal Man, Lobo, [Justice League: New Frontier], Superman vs The Authority, Peacemaker Season 2 and [Mister Terrific]. Gunn replied to the inquiry with a simple, "No," but did not specify whether those projects are not in development at all or they are simply not planned for Chapter 1.RELATED: 10 Batman Villains Too Controversial For A DCU Adaptation

Peacemaker Season 2 Arrives After James Gunn's Superman Movie

The one project that DC fans have an idea of when it will arrive is Peacemaker Season 2. The HBO Max series was greenlit for a second season back in Feb. 2022, but has not been given an official release window as of writing. In a video released at the end of Jan. 2023, Gunn revealed some of Chapter 1's projects, and that the series Waller will deal with the fallout from Peacemaker's Season 1 finale. The DC boss later responded to a Twitter inquiry in April 2023 and said that Peacemaker Season 2 will arrive after Superman: Legacy, a film Gunn is both writing and directing, scheduled to release in theaters July 11, 2025.

As for the other debunked projects, rumors and reports are swirling about some of them, like Mister Terrific and Lobo. Gunn himself has fueled fan speculation about Mister Terrific being in the DCU moving forward, doing so by posting photos of the hero and the team he leads, The Terrifics, on Twitter. There are also rumors that Aquaman actor Jason Momoa will trade in his role as the aquatic superhero to play Lobo, but Gunn said in early February, "Jason will not play two characters," adding, "But we'll figure it out after Aquaman 2." Meanwhile, the Authority is set to appear in their own DCU film, allowing for Superman to cross paths with the team at some point.

How DC Comics Inspire the DCU's Movies and Shows

At this time, a Justice League film inspired by writer-artist Darwyn Cooke's DC: The New Frontier is a more recent rumor that surfaced in late March 2023. The limited series has already been adapted once before with the 2008 animated film Justice League: The New Frontier, but projects planned for Gods and Monsters are also drawing direct inspiration from DC's comics. Gunn has teased that writer Grant Morrison and artist Frank Quietly's All-Star Superman inspires Superman: Legacy, while the movie Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow will adapt the comic series of the same name by writer Tom King and artist Bilquis Evely.

DCU projects slated for the near future in 2023 include the films The Flash, Blue Beetle and Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. Out June 16, 2023, The Flash is set to reboot the existing DCU, paving the way for the future projects mapped out by Gunn and co-CEO Peter Safran.
