When another Twitter user asked if there were any plans for games to be connected to the DCU as well, Gunn simply responded "Yes."RELATED: James Gunn's Latest Art Share Fuels Fans' JSA Hopes for the DCU

This confirmation seemed to impress several Twitter users, who posted comments ranging from excitement at the potential of DC video games overseen by Gunn's creative studio to several asks for games led by characters like Superman, The Flash, and even Lobo. Whether any games connected to the DCU will be developed under DC Studios or WB Games Interactive Entertainment is yet to be known.

However, some Twitter users expressed concerns about the DCU being connected across multiple mediums, with one user saying, "Shouldn’t DC games be their own thing with game studios having full creative control? Look at Marvel's Spider-Man or Batman Arkham for example. Not everything needs to be connected." Others related the connection to The Matrix Trilogy, which was another WB property that told its entire story through movies, comic books, an anthology anime, and a video game.

The Future of DC Video Games

Founded on Jan 14, 2004, under Warner Bros, WBIE -- or Warner Bros. Games -- is part of the newly formed Global Streaming and Interactive Entertainment unit of Warner Bros. Discovery. Though it was initially rumored in 2020 that AT&T would sell the division as part of their merger with WB, it was confirmed in August 2020 that it would remain part of Warner Bros Discovery -- with only one studio being sold in 2021. The division owns several noteworthy development studios such as TT Games, Rocksteady Studios, NetherRealm Studios, and Monolith Productions.

This puts critically acclaimed titles like the Batman: Arkham series, the Mortal Kombat franchise, and the many LEGO games under the control of WB. On Aug. 22, 2020, Rocksteady revealed the first trailer for the upcoming Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, which is said to be set in the "Arkhamverse" and will feature plot threads from those games. During the 2021 Game Awards, Monolith announced it is developing a game based on Wonder Woman, though few details are known about it at this time.
