James Gunn is heading to the DC Extended Universe to write -- and potentially direct -- Suicide Squad 2. The surprising report about the former Marvel Studios writer-director joining the DCEU generated a ton of passionate reactions from fans, but it also caught the attention of one of his good friends: Drax actor Dave Bautista.

In response to the news about Gunn's first post-Marvel gig, Bautista tweeted, "Where do I sign up!" The actor has made it crystal clear time and time again that he's seriously disappointed by Gunn being fired from Guardians of the Galaxy 3. Bautista has been a total joy -- and sometimes heart-breaking -- as Drax in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but if he's not happy with Marvel Studios and Disney about what went down with Gunn, why drag out the collaboration? Drax can easily be removed -- or even recast -- in the MCU, and Warner Bros. should welcome Bautista to the DCEU with open arms.

At this point, there are very few details about Gunn's plans for Suicide Squad 2. It's unclear if any of the cast from Suicide Squad will return, but it's tough to imagine Warner Bros. letting go of Will Smith's Deadshot and Viola Davis' Amanda Waller, and we know Margot Robbie will reprise her role as Harley Quinn in Birds of Prey. Regardless of Gunn's plans for the sequel's storyline, he'd be wise to write a part for Bautista. The actor has unabashedly defended Gunn time and again, and has the potential to be a legitimately great addition to Suicide Squad 2.

If Gunn wants to include his friend, we strongly recommend adding Bane to Task Force X's roster. First and foremost, Bautista looks like Bane. He has the imposing physique and stands at a staggering 6'6" tall. Yes, Bane has already appeared twice on the big screen, but finally getting a more comics-accurate version -- one complete with the classic "Knightfall" costume -- would be a terrific addition to the team. Just like how Suicide Squad revealed Harley Quinn was an accomplice to the murder of Robin, it can also be established that Bane once broke the Batman -- Affleck's version of the Caped Crusader spent two decades as the hero, after all.

We know Bautista would have no problem playing an imposing Bane, but he can also channel some of that comedic timing if Gunn draws some inspiration from the way Gail Simone wrote the popular Batman villain in Secret Six. The role would also let Bautista show he can be a more versatile actor, since Bane is also a shockingly intelligent villain with a keen tactical mind.

If Bane is too obvious of a pick, or even off-limits, Gunn could instead cast Bautista as Anatoli Knyazev, aka KGBeast. This lesser-known Batman fiend would fit right in, assuming Bautista can pull off a Russian accent, of course. As the name states, Anatoli is a beast. In his first appearance, he went toe-to-toe with the Caped Crusader, occasionally even getting the edge over the hero. Just like Bane, KGBeast is a true tactical threat, but tends to have less of an ego, utilizing more weaponry than Bane. Bautista definitely has what it takes to bring this character to life and make him just as dangerous as he should be, and even better, he'd be a perfect for for Task Force X.

And yes, we know a man named Anatoli Knyazev worked for Lex Luthor in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, but it wasn't a significant role, and reintroducing a more comics-accurate version of the character would be worth the minor continuity issue.

KGBeast from DC Comics

Other obvious options include King Shark and Solomon Grundy. They seem a bit redundant if Killer Croc is still around, though -- at least Bane and KGBeast are clever tacticians and not just heavy-hitters. On the other hand, there are plenty of off-the-beaten-path casting choices that could work, like Wildcat or even Sportsmaster, though it would probably be better to save the former for a Birds of Prey sequel to set the dynamic with Black Canary.

Dave Bautista is publicly asking to be in Suicide Squad 2. Clearly, the big guy could portray several DC villains well, and his brazen support of Gunn should earn him a spot in the screenwriter's Suicide Squad 2 story. Now we just have to wait and see how it all plays out, but since the two are close, Bautista joining Suicide Squad 2 feels all but inevitable at this point. The ball is in your court, Warner Bros.
