Comic book fans know exactly which hero they want to join the DC Universe, and it's a surprising choice.Responding to a query on Twitter, DC Studios boss James Gunn noted that he's received many requests to eventually add Michael Jon Carter aka Booster Gold to the DCU. "Interestingly, Booster was the MOST requested character when I asked people on Mastodon what character they'd most like to see on screen," Gunn wrote. "I'm not creating stories by public vote, but I found it fascinating nevertheless." It's currently unknown whether the show-boating hero will join the franchise as DC Studios has yet to make any official announcements.Related: Barbarian Director Wants to Make His Batman Movie Under James Gunn's Watch

If Booster Gold does appear in the DCU, it won't be the first time the fan-favorite character has been adapted for live-action. An iteration of the hero, played by Eric Mastsoff, appeared in the Superman prequel series Smallville. More recently, Donald Faison portrayed Booster Gold in Legends of Tomorrow, an addition that was meant to save the series from cancellation. The glory hound showed up in the series' final season in an attempt to "excite" audiences and attract more viewers. The move ultimately proved unsuccessful as the CW show was terminated in early 2022. The Legends of Tomorrow writers reached out to Gunn in an attempt to renew the popular series but it's unknown whether this is on the cards.

The Future of the DCU

As for the rest of the DCU, Gunn and DC Studios co-head Peter Safran have remained tight-lipped regarding the future of the franchise. While reports have swirled regarding potential projects, including a sequel to Man of Steel starring Henry Cavill, the executives insist that the only people who know about their plans are themselves. "Anyone who says they know anything about anything in the future DCU is bullshitting, because right now that's truly only me and Peter [Safran]," Gunn wrote in response to a seemingly false report.

As for when fans can expect a formal update on the DCU under its new leaders, Gunn has confirmed that news will be shared sooner rather than later. The acclaimed filmmaker has also clarified that the franchise will span multiple formats and will consist of live-action movies and series as well as animation. How these will all be realized and connected remains to be seen.
