Filmmaker James Gunn recently went about clarifying several old interactions on social media, both for fans and for fellow DCEU alumni, namely Justice League actor Ray Fisher, who asked Gunn to explain 'liking' a Tweet posted by actor Alan Tudyk back in 2020, supporting director Joss Whedon. At the time, Fisher had accused Whedon of unprofessional and abusive behavior on the set of Justice League and many had come out in support.Gunn explained, "Shortly after Alan tweeted this he apologized for commenting on a situation he knew nothing about." He added, "I read what Alan said [and] I thought, 'Damn, he's right.' It was something I knew nothing about [and] I shouldn't have liked the tweet."
Tudyk received some amount of backlash for his part and later stated, "I shouldn't deny another person's experience if I wasn't there. It's ignorant." He added, "I've my experiences in and out of work with [Joss Whedon]Â where he has been kind and supportive brilliant and funny." The response remained mixed, with many continuing to criticize the actor for seemingly attempting to dismiss Fisher's experience and claims against Whedon.
Fisher's accusations against Whedon began in 2020 with a post on social media, in which the actor retracted the praise he gave to Whedon around the release of 2017's Justice League. He later detailed major disagreements they had concerning the depiction of Cyborg and went on to claim that the director had abused the cast and crew of the film.
Fisher also claimed that Whedon was enabled by Justice League producers Geoff Johns and Jon Berg. Whedon, Johns and Berg have denied the accusations. WarnerMedia eventually launched an investigation into Fisher's allegations. While the company stated remedial action had been taken, the findings of the investigation have not been made public.
But Fisher is not the only actor who experienced malicious behavior on the set of Justice League. Actor Gal Gadot, known for playing Wonder Woman throughout the DCEU, previously claimed that she confronted Whedon about the depiction of the superhero, at which point Whedon allegedly threatened her career. According to a previous report, a member of production stated, "[Whedon] told her he's the writer and she's going to shut up and say the lines and he can make her look incredibly stupid in this movie." Gadot stated that she had handled the matter on the spot and Warner Bros. was able to help resolve it in a timely manner.
