HBO and BBC announced that they have renewed their adaptation of His Dark Materials, based on the fantasy novels by Philip Pullman, for a third and final season.

One familiar face that was conspicuously absent for all of Season 2 was Farder Coram van Texel, portrayed in the first season by James Cosmo. With principal photography on the eight-episode third season expected to begin in 2021, Cosmo hopes he will get the opportunity to reprise his character one last time.

"I really enjoy that show, especially working with Dafne [Keen]. She's a wonderful, young actress. The Gyptians weren't in the second season, so I haven't seen her in eighteen months or so. To see how much she's growing into a young woman was absolutely delightful, and I had a great experience working with her," Cosmo tells CBR. "We've had some terrific directors working on it: Tom Hooper who was just a joy to work with. He's a real actor's director. I do hope I get asked back. You can never tell with adaptations and the Gyptians, but we'll wait and see. I'd love to go back."

Coram was the righthand man of John Faa, the King of the Gyptians, a nomadic society roaming through the country. The Gyptians rescued Lyra in the first season and escorted them back south before informing her about Oakley Street. While the Gyptians and Coram briefly appeared at the end of The Amber Spyglass, it is unclear if the television adaptation will revisit the characters as it sets the stage for its final battle.

Airing on HBO on Mondays at 9 p.m. ET/PT, His Dark Materials Season 2 stars Dafne Keen as Lyra, Amir Wilson as Will Parry, Ruth Wilson as Marisa Coulter, Lin-Manuel Miranda as Lee Scoresby and Andrew Scott as John Parry. The Season 2 finale airs Monday, Dec. 28 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on HBO.
