James Cameron's True Lies might finally be adapted to a television series soon.

Cameron recently signed on to executive produce a television adaptation of his 1994 action-romance film alongside Burn Notice writer Matt Nix, as reported by THR. CBS officially ordered a pilot for the potential spinoff series on Feb. 10.

Cameron wrote and directed the comedic action film which starred Jamie Lee Curtis and Arnold Schwarzenegger. A spinoff series for the film has been in development and in talks of development with a variety of networks over the last decade, including Fox and Disney+. McG "who has been attached to previous attempts to reboot the 20th Century Fox film, is also set to direct the pilot and exec produce [the series]."

Nix and Cameron's pilot episode description closely follows the original film's comedic plotline. A shared synopsis of the pilot reads, "Shocked to discover that her bland and unremarkable computer consultant husband is a skilled international spy, an unfulfilled suburban housewife is propelled into a life of danger and adventure when she’s recruited to work alongside him to save the world as they try to revitalize their passionless marriage."

At the time of this writing, there are no casting attachments to this television project.

The original True Lies film starred Arnold Schwarzenegger as a mild-mannered father and husband who lived a double life as a covert operative for a U.S. counter-terrorism task force. However, his two worlds collide when he learns his wife (Jamie Lee Curtis) may be having an affair with a used car salesman as terrorists are smuggling nuclear weapons into the country.
