James Cameron Brings True Lies To Television

Those of you waiting for a True Lies sequel, it looks like you’re finally getting your wish — well, kind of, at least. James Cameron is reportedly preparing a television adaptation of his 1994 action comedy, with his Dark Angel collaborator Rene Echevarria attached as writer and showrunner.

Deadline reports that the project, which comes from Cameron’s Lightstorm Entertainment and 20th Century Fox TV, is about to be pitched to networks. At the moment, little is known about the television adaptation’s plot — it could be a complete reboot of the original True Lies with new actors occupying the roles made famous by Arnold Schwarzenegger and Jamie Lee Curtis. Perhaps the show will feature a new set of characters entirely. What’s not terribly likely, of course, is Schwarzenegger and Curtis reprising their roles, unless they appear in brief cameos. Maybe Tom Arnold could be the returning linchpin to hold the continuity together?

The original True Lies focused on Harry Tasker (Schwarzenegger), family man by day and high octane spy by night. Neglected and craving adventure of her own, Harry’s wife Helen (Curtis) embarks on an affair. Eventually, the two join forces in an effort to prevent a massive terrorist attack and repair their strained marriage.
