New set photos from No Time to Die, the upcoming 25th James Bond film, offer a first look at Lashana Lynch's new role as 007.
The photo, which surfaced on Twitter, depicts Lynch fully into her latest mission as 007. An earpiece is prominently on display, most likely to receive intel from MI6. She's strapped with several firearms, to take on whatever comes her way.
As indicated in the Tweet, Lynch is not creating a new or rebooted version of James Bond. She is playing Nomi, who takes the number and role of Bond when he leaves active service. No Time to Die will once again feature Daniel Craig as the iconic character, as he gets called out of retirement by his friend Felix Leiter (Jeffrey Wright) to rescue an abducted scientist. A video from the 007 website back in June featured Craig, Wright and Lynch filming together in the Caribbean.
Reports of Lynch's involvement in the Bond series began to circulate earlier this summer. In July, an anonymous source confirmed that the Captain Marvel star would play the new 007. Her casting has received various commentary from Bond series alumni. While previous 007 Pierce Brosnan was all-for the choice, former Bond girl Valerie Leon was despondent that a man would not be filling the role.
Directed and co-written by Cary Fukunaga, No Time to Die stars Daniel Craig, Ralph Fiennes, Naomie Harris, Rory Kinnear, Léa Seydoux, Ben Whishaw, Jeffrey Wright, Ana de Armas, Dali Benssalah, David Dencik, Lashana Lynch, Billy Magnussen, and Rami Malek. It is scheduled for a USA release on April 8, 2020.
