Pierce Brosnan, the James Bond of the 1990s and star of Die Another Day, isn't a big fan of Daniel Craig's final Bond film, No Time to Die.

Brosnan admitted his opinion in an interview with GQ, where the former 007 also clarified that he doesn't have a preference for who plays James Bond in the next film for the venerated spy franchise. "I saw the last one [No Time to Die]," he said, "and I saw Skyfall. I love Skyfall. I'm not too sure about the last one." The interviewer noted that Brosnan gave a pause before offering up a kind but "unfinished" thought on the matter: "Daniel always gives of his heart. Very courageous, very strong. But…"

For its part, No Time to Die, the final film to star Daniel Craig, had an opening domestic box office gross of $55,225,007 and would go on to rake in $774,153,007 worldwide during a theatrical run beset by lockdowns related to the coronavirus pandemic. It was also generally favored by critics and audiences alike, though CBR's Brandon Zachary had this to say in his No Time to Die review: "When it works, it works. It's just not as good as it could have been, and that's slightly disappointing."

How Pierce Brosnan Became James Bond

Brosnan's history with Bond goes back to before his first bow as the super-spy in 1995's GoldenEye. The then 34-year-old Irish actor was in contention for the lead role in 1987's The Living Daylights, but he had to duck out because of contractual obligations to the Remington Steele television series. Following GoldenEye, Brosnan went on to star in three subsequent 007 outings, including Tomorrow Never Dies in 1997 and The World Is Not Enough in 1999. His last film as Bond was Die Another Day in 2002.

Casting for the new James Bond is currently under wraps. However, 007 producer Barbara Broccoli previously noted that the next actor to assume the role would potentially be looking at "a 10-, 12-year commitment" and doesn't blame actors like Idris Elba for not being interested in such a daunting commitment. In another interview, she added, "[We're thinking] about the trajectory of the Bond films and the storylines and where we want to take them." According to Broccoli, the next Bond villain will also factor in how the new Bond is cast.

Brosnan's next film role is Doctor Fate in Black Adam, the next DC Comics film from Warner Bros., which drops Oct. 21.
