Now that Daniel Craig's tenure as James Bond has drawn to a close with No Time to Die, the search for a new 007 begins. For many fans of the franchise, the answer remains Idris Elba.A recent post on Twitter asked for fans to choose from a group of potential new Bonds. The ten candidates included Star Wars' John Boyega, Thor actor Chris Hemsworth and Black Panther's Michael B. Jordan as well as Elba. Despite the suggestion of so many other popular and successful actors, the only choice for many repliers was Elba. Some tweets in support of Elba even racked up hundreds of likes in their own right.RELATED: James Bond Boss Says 007 Can Be Any Race - As Long as They're Male

Rumors and hopes of Elba as the next Bond have been circulating for over a decade. In 2012, Skyfall actor Naomie Harris suggested that Elba had met with series producer Barbara Broccoli and voiced her support for Idris in the role. "I didn't realize that there was this talk and then I did a film with Idris and he said that he met Barbara Broccoli and that it does seem like there is a possibility in the future that there could very well be a black James Bond," Harris said at the time. However, in 2018 Elba addressed the continuing speculation directly. He responded to a direct question about whether he would be the next Bond with a simple one-word answer -- "no."

With the role of Bond now open, several other actors have voiced their willingness to step into the part, from Black Adam's Dwayne Johnson to Spider-Man's Tom Holland. Holland recently revealed that he even made a pitch to Sony Pictures to make a young James Bond movie, but he admitted, "It didn't really make sense. It didn't work. It was the dream of a young kid, and I don't think the Bond estate were particularly interested."

Christoper McQuarrie, the director and writer of four Mission Impossible movies, had his own suggestion for the next Bond after working with Man of Steel's Henry Cavill on Mission: Impossible - Fallout. When asked in an interview about Cavill's suitability, McQuarrie said the actor would "make an excellent Bond." Cavill himself has addressed the possibility in the past, saying "If [producers] Barbara [Broccoli] and Michael [G. Wilson] are interested me in any capacity to be a part of their movies, then I will gladly have that discussion with them, and that would be something I'd be very keen to explore further."
