Jada Pinkett Smith Returns to "Gotham" as Fish Mooney

"Hawthorne" star Jada Pinkett Smith will reprise her role as Fish Mooney for multiple episodes in "Gotham" season two. While TVLine confirmed Pinkett Smith's return, there are no details surrounding the circumstances of Fish Mooney's reappearance quite yet.

In season one, Mooney was a member of the Falcone crime family and the owner of Mooney's Nightclub. The character was last seen during a shootout with Butch Gilzean, during which time her umbrella man -- Oswald Cobblepot, aka the Penguin -- pushed her off a warehouse roof into the water below. It was unknown if she survived the fall at the time, but Pinkett Smith's imminent return implies she made it out alive. However, as no details are known about her return, she could just as easily appear in a flashback or dream sequence.

"I would definitely not assume anything in a town like Gotham," executive producer Bruno Heller said in an interview soon after Mooney's demise in the season one finale. "It's very unpredictable, the comic book world."

Starring Ben McKenzie, Donal Logue and David Mazouz, "Gotham" returns Monday, February 29 at 8 pm EST on Fox.
