X-Men: Days of Future Past brings the veterans of the first three X-Men films on a collision course with the youngsters of X-Men: First Class. Clearly, it's a big cast. But how big is the movie? Very big, according to Hugh Jackman — like, Avatar big.

"This is certainly the biggest movie Fox has made outside of Avatar, so there's pressure from all the angles," the actor told Empire. "But [Bryan Singer] is buzzing, and he's confident. He's gone deeper emotionally, and it's a great ensemble piece."

Jackman added that he never imagined starring in another X-Men movie after The Last Stand wrapped.

"There was already talk about doing a younger version, and I was certainly talking about Wolverine and trying to drum up interest in that," he said. "I thought the idea of another X-Men movie was done, so [Days of Future Past] was a surprise. And a welcome one."

As for what his character is up to in Days of Future Past, Jackman said Logan knows he's "a warrior and he can't hide from that anymore," based on the events of last summer's The Wolverine. He also teased a bit of what to expect from Wolverine's 1970s adventures.

"The hair, the mutton chops, you can smoke cigars everywhere," he said, "everything about Wolverine seems more at home in the 70s."

X-Men: Days of Future Past hits theaters on May 23, 2014.
