Actor Jackie Chan recently explained why he's been reluctant to appear in Hollywood productions as of late.

Chan recently took a break from Hollywood roles in order to focus on starring in Chinese productions, including the fantasy film, The Knight of Shadows: Between Yin and Yang, as reported by Filmelier.

When asked why he decided to leave U.S. cinema, Chan replied he "never left America," only that he could not "find the right script." After playing Mr. Han in the 2010 remake of The Karate Kid, Chan said, "I received so many scripts, but the role is… a cop from Hong Kong!"

It was not until seven years later that Chan accepted a Hollywood role with The Foreigner.

"I want to make sure that every year the audience can see so many different sides of Jackie Chan," he said. "I would like audiences to consider me as an actor who can do action, not just as an action star."

"I don't like to repeat myself," Chan added. In the interview, he stated that he hopes to take on more diverse acting roles, especially ones on the dramatic side. However, he made sure to clarify he has not denounced action comedy films and will continue to do them in the future, as long as he can work in "other genres" too.
