Season 3 of Jack Ryan was officially confirmed on Amazon Prime Video, but a lot of questions still remain about the new season. Season 2 left fans on a cliff hanger after Jack Ryan, played by the brilliant John Krasinski, teamed up with former colleague James Greer (Wendell Pierce), CIA Station Chief in Venezuela Mike November (Michael Kelly), and German intelligence operator Harriet "Harry" Baumann (Noomi Rapace), amongst others, as they investigated a shocking conspiracy.

From a mysterious satellite launched in the South China Sea to the suspicious Presidential election in Venezuela, the team pulled together to uncover the truth and left fans wanting to see more. While the season is confirmed, due to delays in filming, it is still very up in the air when the season will air and what it will be about.

10 The New Season Will See Jack Globe-Trotting Once Again

No spy thriller is the same without its use of different locations and global feel. The James Bond films are the perfect examples of using multiple locations to shoot a spy movie, as did Tenet last year, and Jack Ryan hasn't disappointed with its first two seasons. In season 2, for example, the show was filmed in five different cities on three different continents, and season 3 will follow in a similar fashion.

The upcoming episodes have been filmed in many locations, including the UK, Colombia, Russia, Canada, Morocco, and the US so far, so who knows what Jack Ryan will be investigating, but the geopolitical thriller will most definitely feature plenty of new and worldwide settings.

9 Yes, John Krasinski Will Definitely Return As The Main Protagonist

John Krasinski as Jack Ryan

To many John Krasinski is known by many as Jim Halpert from The Office. There he is an incredibly likable character, one of the best pranksters of all time, quite smug, and has one of the best on-screen TV relationships with Pam of all time. But, in his latest TV role, he stars as the up-and-coming, incredibly intelligent, CIA analyst Jack Ryan.

Krasinski is definitely the right man for the job, and it's hard to imagine anyone else playing the iconic role, so it's not a surprise that he will continue to star and lead in the new season. It's not yet known what's in store for Jack Ryan, but John Krasinski will definitely play the character.

8 A More Administrative Role May Be In Store For Wendell Pierce's James Greer

Wendell Pierce's James Greer and Jack Ryan

By the end of season 2, it began to look like James Greer, played by the amazing Wendell Pierce, may finally be stepping back from his role on the field, and it looks like his role in the next season could see him behind a desk more often than not. As fans know, Greer was suffering from heart problems in season 2, which caused some havoc, so he may decide to take it a bit easier.

After being held captive and some intense missions, Greer will most likely take on a more administered role, and act like the guy in the chair for Jack Ryan as he goes about his business. An exclusive deleted scene from season 2, as reported by ScreenRant, shows Greer putting together a team of agents, in Nick Fury style, which also adds to the idea that he might end up as the guy behind the scenes.

7 Who Could Jack Ryan's Mini Avengers-Style Team Include?

After the tease of Greer forming a new team in that deleted scene, fans can expect this new team to be a major plot point for the new season. But questions remain around who else, besides Jack Ryan, will be in the team. In need of more analysts and field officers, perhaps Jack Ryan season 3 will feature some brand new exciting characters.

In fact, it is reported that Marianne Jean-Baptiste, who has had roles in shows such as Blindspot and Without A Trace, is set to join the cast as Chief of Station. Could she be a member of this new team? Quite possibly. New cast members will be announced soon, and fans can't wait to see what kind of team the show could introduce.

6 Will The Return Of Dr. Cathy Mueller Finally Happen?

Dr. Cathy Mueller Jack Ryan Walking

Some fans and critics, although both agreed that season 2 was an enjoyable watch, felt something was lacking or missing from the first season. While the question remains about what that is, something that was pretty evidently missing was a major character from season 1, Dr. Cathy Mueller.

As Jack Ryan's love interest, it was quite a shock to have her not appear in any episodes or even mentioned as to where she was. Her storyline feels unfinished and had plenty of fans wondering where she is and what she's doing. In the books, Cathy and Jack end up married with kids, so it seems reasonable to predict that a return should be in store in the future.

5 Jack Ryan's Third Tour Of Duty Will Have A New Showrunner

Unfortunately, showrunner Carlton Cuse, also known for Lost and Bates Motel, will step down from his role as showrunner for Jack Ryan season 3. But not all hope is lost, as Cuse's replacement has already been found in the creator of Fox's Prison Break, Vaun Wilmott. With his impressive resume, it's no surprise fans are equally, if not more, excited to see Wilmott's take on the iconic character.

Could the tone and overall feeling of the show change? Potentially, but the core elements that made the Jack Ryan as popular as it did should remain, and it could provide an interesting twist in the upcoming season. It is also worth noting that Cuse will still remain as an executive producer and will still have an input on the show, just maybe not quite as much of one.

4 Could Season 3 Follow The Novels & Make Jack Ryan President Of The United States Of America?

Jack Ryan as a show and franchise, has the potential to carry on for plenty of seasons thanks to the rich and dense novels written by Tom Clancy. The geopolitical thriller still has plenty of material to take inspiration from. So far, Jack has gone from an analyst, like in Hunt for Red October, to an operative in the field, but perhaps a more shocking future storyline from the books sees Jack becoming president of the United States.

This, at the moment anyway, seems like a massive leap forward, and probably too early in the show's timeline to even consider it happening, but it is still fun to theorize how the season could be setting up Jack's eventual stint as president. While season 3 might not give present President Jack just yet, it might give a few hints.

3 Season 3 Of Jack Ryan Is Definitely Not The Last

Jack Ryan looks down the street

As previously mentioned, the Jack Ryan show is based on the 11 books written by Tom Clancy, so it's fair to say that the show has enormous legs, and Carlton Cuse mentioned this in an interview saying "There will be a lot of other chapters to Jack Ryan." So it can be said that this next season won't be the last.

It's not known how many more seasons John Krasinski would be up for doing, but it seems likely that another few seasons could be released. The geopolitical thriller is definitely capable of carrying on for a good few more years, and maybe it means Jack Ryan will get his chance to be president one day.

2 Despite Its Confirmation, No Release Date Has Been Announced

As with all TV shows and movies at the moment, Covid-19 has really put a spanner in the works in terms of production and filming. With plenty of delays and loads of protocols to abide by, the show's release date is still completely unknown. The first season of Jack Ryan was released in mid-to-late 2018, while season 2 was released 15 months later in late 2019, so by that logic, season 3 should already be out by now, but of course, a delay is to be expected.

In positive news, reports have suggested that filming for the new season started rolling towards the end of 2020, or most likely at the start of 2021, so an extremely late release in 2021 or an early 2022 release is to be expected.

1 Is A Cameo Or Crossover Expected With The Jack Ryan Spin-Off Without Remorse?

john clark without remorse

Within the same Tom Clancy universe as the Jack Ryan series, a new film Without Remorse is set to be released on the 30th April 2021 on Amazon Prime starring Michael B. Jordan as an elite Navy SEAL, John Clark, who uncovers an international conspiracy while seeking justice for the murder of his pregnant wife.

Could this feature a cameo from Jack Ryan, or vice-versa in season 3? Maybe. They both are meant to be in the same Jack Ryan universe, so perhaps the two agents will cross paths at some point, but John Clark's movie does seem a little more explosive and thrilling than the Jack Ryan series.
