Jack Huston Lands Title Role in ‘Ben-Hur’ Remake

Timur Bekmambetov has found his Ben-Hur and it’s not Tom Hiddleston. Instead, The Hollywood Reporter contends, the director of Wanted and Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter has turned to Jack Huston, who’s said to be considering the offer.

Best known for his role as Richard Harrow on HBO’s Boardwalk Empire, Huston also appeared in American Hustle and Kill Your Darlings. He’ll play Mr. Wickham in Pride and Prejudice and Zombies.

MGM’s new version of the epic is said to draw more of its inspiration from Lew Wallace’s 1880 novel than the 1959 Charlton Heston film did. Morgan Freeman is attached to co-star as Ildarin, who teaches Ben-Hur to race chariots.

Hiddleston’s name had been floating around for the lead role, but his involvement in Skull Island may have precluded his involvement in Ben-Hur.

Ben-Hur is scheduled to hit theaters on Feb. 26, 2016.
