Despite starring in 2015's Goosebumps as a fictionalized version of author R.L. Stine, Jack Black has been noticeably absent from the marketing for the sequel, and early reports indicated he wouldn't reprise the role. However, a new promo for Goosebumps 2: Haunted Halloween welcomes an "Old Friend," confirming that Black is back for another adventure.

As the TV spot opens, we're treated to previously released scenes of monsters causing mayhem, before a vehicle pulls up and out steps Stine, who soon assures that everything will be fine. All he needs is "typing paper, a thesaurus, and a comfortable chair with lumbar support."

At the end of the previous film, Stine was horrified to learn the only monster that evaded recapture was Brent Green (also played by Black), the antagonist from the book My Best Friend Is Invisible, and was attacked by the character. How Stine managed to defeat Brent and possibly trap him again may be brought up in the sequel, but if the autor's reappearance is any indication, he may be ready to deal with his creations' shenanigans once more.

Directed by Ari Sandel (The DUFF), Goosebumps 2: Haunted Halloween stars Jack Black, Madison Iseman, Jeremy Ray Taylor, Caleel Harris, Ken Jeong, and Chris Parnell. The film opens Oct. 12.
